Yep, had an opticians appointment this afternoon - has all changed a fair bit since my last eye check 2 years ago. It's all computerised now. Anyway, got there and sat in the waiting room for a bit reading magazines that were 10 years out of date and then a very small man came out. I make a point of saying this because I'm VERY small so to meet a man smaller than me was an odd experience. Anyhow, the small man turned out to be Bruce, the (very enthusiastic) optician - "hi! I'm Bruce and I'll be checking your eyes today!". Fantastic! Well, let's go then!
So, as I said, it was all computerised now ..... I went through all the checks (god! it takes ages! ... "which group of dots is clearer? Group A or group B?"... over and over) and then he tells me it's all done and he's tapping away at the puter keyboard and it all goes very ominously quiet. I was starting to panic and think he was going to tell me I was going to need a guide dog pretty soon. He didn't, instead he says "ummm, I've just wiped all that off the computer ... ummm... we're going to have to do it again".
Oh well done Bruce.
So we did it all again and the result of all this hoo-haa was .... my eyesight is better! BETTER! I said surely this can't be possible but, yes, apparently it is. My vision has improved and I didn't need such strong glasses anymore. Hurrah! So I thanked Bruce and trotted off to choose some new spectacles and ended up with a very lovely pair which are completely different from the ones I had been wearing (geek-like, thick). My new ones are thinner frames and the frames are very dark purple. Yes! purple! They actually look really, really gorgeous and the colour just seems to blend nicely into my general face/hair colour when they're on. Maybe purple is a good colour if you've got dark reddy blonde hair and peachy skin *shrugs* I don't know - it just worked :)
Got to go back in a week and pick them up.
After all that I met up with Tim and the kids who'd been in the toy shop and had purchased a bagful of stuff namely, a magnet, a compass, a beanbag crab, a ball, 2 polystyrene glider birds and a box of fire truck Lego. Lovely.
Then it was home again via Sainsbys to pick up some routine shopping.
And that was my afternoon :)
